Now in its sixth year, the ChinaBio® Leadership Retreat has become a “must attend” annual event for life science industry leaders with business interests in China.
This exclusive, invitation-only event is limited to 200 senior executives from global life science companies and China’s leading biotechs. It is a highly interactive, open forum generating discussion around current issues facing the industry in China as well as the challenges of doing business here, and planning how organizations can best leverage this input for success.
And after a hard day's work of shaping the future of our industry, there will be excellent opportunities for further discussion and networking during our traditional golf outing and scenic tour.
Shunde - An Emerging Life Science Hub
"Where is Shunde?" and "Why Shunde?" are the first two questions we usually hear. Shunde is a highly affluent independent district of Foshan City in the Guangdong Province only one hour from the Guangzhou airport. It is probably best known as home to Midea, a progressive $23B (US) global producer of appliances, air conditioning and auto parts. But Shunde has recently launched an aggressive program to attract life science companies, making life science and biotech the highest priority industry for growth. ChinaBio will be working closely with Qianju Biotechnology and Shunde to help make this happen, and the first project is a 6000 m2 state-of-the-art incubator/accelerator located in the beautiful Sino-European Center (pictured). A short tour of the facility will be integrated into the event.
Day One Summary - Friday, October 21
After a relaxing evening meeting friends and colleagues at the Welcome Reception on Thursday evening, the first day of the two-day Leadership Retreat will feature industry updates from ChinaBio and other industry luminaries, followed by highly interactive working sessions focused on understanding the opportunities to create a more successful business environment in China. These interactive sessions will be led by industry experts and thought leaders and will result in actionable recommendations that delegates can utilize to help build their own businesses in China.
The first day will end with our traditional Gala Banquet featuring delicious Canonese food and special treats from Shunde, and of course, more networking wtih friends.
Day Two Summary - Saturday, October 22
The second day will feature two networking activities enabling delegates to get to know each other better and discuss the results of the prior day's efforts.
Option 1: Golf Outing
The Leadership Retreat golf outing is always a highlight of the event, and this year promises to be our best ever. The incredibly beautiful Royal-Orchid International Golf Club is a challenging 27-hole championship course with over 100 bunkers and many water barriers, originally designed by Greg Norman. (Don't worry, we'll only be playing 18 holes!)
Option 2: Shunde Scenic Tour
The second option, for non-golfers, is a wonderful tour of Shunde's cultural heritage, including ancient architecture, historic art, martial arts and some special Shunde treats. We'll visit a sprawling 400 year-old mansion and a unique outdoor art gallery, where you can put brush to paper and try caligraphy. We will also visit a famous kung fu hall, and see a demonstration of Wing Chun, made famous by Bruce Lee. And if caligraphy is too tame for you, you can try hand-to-hand combat with the masters, if you wish. There will several special treats served, including double-layer milk custard, one of my favorites.
